In Memorium: Hari Shankar Mishra- Bulandoo: ( Dada) ( 1934- January 12, 2015 )- My Uncle

January 13, 2015

Krishna Consciousness 1972- 2014- my experiences

December 9, 2014

In morning hours of December of 1972, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada was reading Krishna book on a Sub-way Metro Station in Hamburg, Germany while awaiting for the train to arrive. I had been sitting next to him and was eager to know the contents of the book. Because those days, it was almost impossible to find Vedic literature in the West, I requested the disciple to handover the Krishna book to me in order to glimpse it. The disciple was clever, he knew that I am attracted to Krishna, as such he offered the recently printed Krishna book to me for five Marks. In a way, that was a lot of Lakshmi for a paper bound book. I wanted to exchange it for a banana which I had for breakfast, and offered him. He won’t accept any thing or gift in exchange, so he said: Please pay Five German Marks. Now I had the Krishna book in my hand, and didn’t want to give him back, there was no choice except to open my wallet and donate Five Marks to him. He was from Michigan – a place where I was interested to go in future and teach Naval Architecture in future. Five years later, I met in a Sauna in Stavanger, Norway three disciples of Srila Prabhupada. That renewed my contacts with Krishna Consciousness. I cooked prasadam for them, assisted them in their laundry and in exchange I received not only their mercy but a lot of Krishna Conscious books and devotional records. Since 1977, my connection with ISKCON became stronger and stronger. My latest sewa has been to establish under the guidance of His Holiness Ganapati Swami [ ACBSP ] a GOSHALA in Phoenix, Arizona, USA http://www.azgoshala.org On the otherhand, the ISKCON Temple management has been so much upset that we 21+ devotees, Life Members, congregational supporters have been banned for more than 400 days even to have darshan of deities at the Sri Sri Radha MadhavaHari Dham, ISKCON of Phoenix . GOSHALA IN ARIZONA

October 18, 2014
Goshala – Protect cows-Live Naturally.

For the protection of cows, Indian PM Narendra Modi launched on July 27, 2014 the National Gokul Gram Mission. An amount of  INR 150 Crores (US $ 25 million), for the fiscal-year 2014-2015 was allocated for the purpose.  In the words of Mahatma Gandhi : “Be the change you wish to see in the world” . Gandhi Ji  believed in cow protection, and we follow that in GOSHALA- the principle of nonviolence to every living beings including animals.

Even in Gujarat, Muslims have supported banning cow slaughter: “We are going to convince butchers that they should give up slaughtering cows.”  We are opposing cow slaughter as it is against the law,” said Haji Dilawar Yakub, president of the newly formed Gujarat Muslim Gau Hifazat Samiti in Bharuch.” Organizations like Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind, Gujarat, Bharat Bachao Andolan, and Gujarat Muslim Development Council have also supported the cause.
Here in Phoenix, Goshala participated in Seva at Maha Kumbhabhishekam at newly installed structures of Maha Ganapati temple, Life Infusion ceremony ( Praan Pratishthha ) at Hindu Temple of Arizona at Scottsdale,  several house warming ceremonies and supplied fresh Ahimsa milk to many deities residing in temples along with cow urine (go-mutra) and  cow dung (go-mayam)  for auspicious occasions to worship for temples and devotees’ families. Request to supply  cow dung
to Sreenath Ji temple for worship were gladly fulfilled. Even from Chicago, a devotee’s request for go-mayam was taken care by  mail  because she was conducting Agnihotra Yajna at home, and needed a good quality cow dung from Ahimsa cows.
Four years ago, GOSHALA was established on April 7, 2010. His Holiness Ganapati Swami inspired both Goshala and later on January 19, 2014 Hare Krishna Spiritual Center – to fulfill the  mission of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu- of Chanting of Holy Names- in this age of nescience, Kaliyuga, as means of liberation and obtaining love of God!

In Sanskrit the word ‘Goshala’ literally means cow protection, or the place where cows are sheltered. Goshala supporters understand that of all creatures, the cow is given a special place in the religious tradition of India. Indeed, Krishna is often known as “Gopal” and “Govinda” – protector of cows. The very name of Krishna’s holy land of Braj (pasture) and His spiritual abode Goloka (cow-world) reveal His intimate connection with cows.
Volunteers of  Goshala actively participated in community outreach programs like Food for life at Watkins shelter, Akhsaya Patra fundraising tournament, Yoga Festival, Discover India, India Nite at  IACRF Foundation Hall and Diwali Mela to propagate the message of Goraksha Punya Program.

Under the inspiration of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, and following the teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad-gita, the Goshala is dedicated to educating the people in general of the importance of cow protection, and in providing a place for cows to live their lives happily, knowing that they are protected.
Cow protection is not a relic from the ancient past – it’s the heart of Dharma. By supporting Arizona’s Goraksha Punya program, you are also protecting Mother Earth (symbolized by a cow) through the promotion of environmentally sound farming practices. In one selfless stroke, you are sending a valuable message to our children and to a troubled world which sees today’s gentle cow as tomorrow’s dinner.

Our President Satyanarayana Koka & Vice President Pankaj Kumar participated in Dharma Yoga Fest, held in October 2013. Following video-link  provides an introduction to objectives and mission of Goshala:

Mahatma Gandhi

January 30, 2014
Mahatma Gandhi visited our Ewing Christian College in 1937, and influenced Prof Ram Vilas Sharma of Raipur, our Head of the Physics Department, who established two schools in remote villages. During summer vacations in 1955,
I used to bike in order to visit those schools, where I encouraged my class mates to go along with me and teach self-sufficiency: how to make soap.
Prof Sharma even built a Gandhian Library in premises of Ewing Christian College, Allahabad, where  I was a lead volunteer.
My father asked me read Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography entitled: “My Experiments with Truths”. Yes, I did finish reading it from beginning to end at the age of 10. Naturayy, it influenced me greatly. Later, I visited Paunar, near Nagpur where Vinoba Bhave had a hut. As you may know, he was spiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi.
My nick name was : Vinoba  kaa chelaa.
In December of 1972, I read “Krishna” book by Srila Prabhupada, given to me by his disciple, while I was waiting a connecting metro train at the Hamburg Railway station. It brought closer to me to Krishna- and I never had to  look back!
Gandhi Ji had impersonal knowledge of Krishna, although he practised Bhagvad Gita daily as  a Karma Yogi.
We are on path of devotion, as bhaktas.
When Gandhi Ji was shot dead in evening of Friday, January 30, 1948, we all went out to listen to speeched by our leaders on Radios which shop-keepers used to use for attracting customers.
Yes, I witnessed  immersion of “ashes” at Triveni Sangam in Prayag  in February  during Kumbh Mela and watched all leaders going in cars, one by one. Even Maulana Abul Kalam Azad- a Muslim, Education Minister  came to pay homage!
Such is the attraction of Triveni Sangam !

Grand Opening of the Hare Krishna Spiritual Center in Tempe, Arizona, USA

Grand Opening of the Hare Krishna Spiritual Center in Tempe, Arizona

BY: PRAYAG N. DAS

Jan 23, 2014 — TEMPE, ARIZONA, USA (SUN) — A new place of worship had its grand opening in Tempe, Arizona – a suburb of Phoenix, where Arizona State University is located on Sunday, January 19. It is devoted to spreading Krishna consciousness in the Valley of the Sun in accordance with teachings of Srila Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

The event started with an auspicious homa performed by Ram Prasad das. Gaur Arotik was conducted by Bhaktaraj Das, accompanied by Govinda das and Kirtan Yajna das. Sandamini mataji performed the first arati. The chanting was so ecstatic that everyone in the room, including students, kids and new guests was dancing.

We were honored to have His Holiness Ganapati Swami come and bless the new endeavor on behalf of Srila Prabhupada and give a very enlivening talk. It was a very successful event and the place was full of positive spiritual energy as if we had been transported 15 years back to the happier days of the opening of the Radha Madhavah Temple in Phoenix. So many senior Srila Prabhupada disciples and grand disciples from Arizona gathered in one place, and gave blessings which are so beneficial to the Krishna consciousness atmosphere. Krsna will surely shower His Mercy to a center whose mission is to stay one hundred percent true to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings. The center is open and welcoming to all devotees so no one made to feel the slightest that this is someone’s private property.

When Dasarath prabhu and Sandamini mataji started the ISKCON of Phoenix temple in 1995, everyone always felt the warmth and welcome from the management. All of us felt it was our own temple and Sri Krishna is ours. We were fortunate to have both of them present at the opening of the new place. The atmosphere was, as Ganapati Maharaj said ‘like the Hare Krishna movement 40 years ago’. Sandamini mataji comments, ‘That is a compliment as the movement was small but very personal and loving in its dealings with everyone, particularly in the initial stages of the movement.’

The devotee hosts were very caring in the service to the guests (the ladies came around 6 times to see if anyone wanted anything else) and encouraging everyone to participate and heaped thanks on all who helped make the center a reality.

A dozen of spiritually minded students from Mesa Community College attended the gala evening along with their teacher, Tom Shoemaker. They were given free copies of Bhagvad-gita As It is along with flyers of Goshala, whose motto is “Protect Cows- Live Naturally”. It should be mentioned that Goshala has completed four years and has two cows and two calves. It successfully celebrated that event this month with 200 congregation devotees who loves and supports cow protection. ISKCON is encouraging its temples worldwide to start cow protection and fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s desire to implement Varnashrama in society.

Srila Prabhupada wanted Lord Chaitanyas’s message spread to every town and village, so we now have one more town dedicated to that principal.

Updates to His Holiness Ganapati Swami Maharaja ( ACBSP)

November 30, 2013

Jay Go Mata!

Dear Ganapati Swami Maharaj Ji:

Please accept my humble obeisance.

All glories to Sri Guru & Sri gauranga!!

All all glories to Srila Prabhupada!!!

This morning, His Grace Manny Cisneros greeted me on Father’s Day with Hare Krishna. He had left a message on voice mail

yesterday with entire Hare Krishna Maha Mantra chanting.

While he was in California in  early 80’s, he used to have a music band and used to play instruments and sing Maha Mantra.

When I met him in Arizona Governor’s office in 2002, our friendship started. He visited Sri Sri Radha MadhavaHari Dham in 2004

on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami- and danced publicly on Maha Mantra. He held the office of Director, Equal Opportunity in

Governor Janet Napolitano’s cabinet for many years, and retired from present Governor Jan Brewer’s regime in 2010.

A plaque inscribed with Maha Mantra was presented to him in 2004. He used to chant it often.

Now during morning walks, he chants regularly. He confessed that his desire to chant more has increased- as he has found

bliss in it !

I have forwarded him video link on village in Indonesia, kindly sent by you. Bhakta Manny Cisneros would love to visit with you

when you are in town again. He has appreciated very much our GOSHALA project, and the effort of sustainability and eco-friendly

farming and goal of establishing Varnashram Dharma.

Maharaj, I am constantly in touch with IIT- Delhi, as there is R & D using bamboo as construction material for cow sheds.

Likewise, I do talk to Prof Mark Henderson in ASU- who has taken sustainable projects in Africa and visits India often.

Few days ago, an official bhaktin Ebony Mack, M B D A, from Washington DC saw a cow so closely for the first time in life and appreciated our small business

project: GOSHALA  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiEBtSR4Jxk .

MBDA stands for MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AGENCY,

under the Department of Commerce- and may assist us in several  ways in the long run. Manny Cisneros will assist us in securing Federal Grants.

Yesterday, our meeting with His Grace Jivanand Dasa Vanachari has strengthened the cause of cow protection further, as you can see

through our latest flyer.

Please comments.

IN MEMORIUM: Prakash Narayan Mishra ( born 26th October 1958- died 27th November 2013)

November 29, 2013

My younger brother Prakash Narayan Mishra ( born 26 October 1956- died 27th November 2013) always took very good care of me, when ever I stayed in our ancestral home in Daraganj, Vasuki, – Prayag- Allahabad. The Home is named after my great-grand mother : Kaushalya Bhawan- who expired on Ekadashi Day in 1941- then I was just two years old. Next in 1946, my great grand father PataRakhan Lal left this world -then I was just 7 years of age. He used to take me for a walk to Radha Krishna Temple and make me dance on song” ghoonghar vaale baal ki haan, jay bolo Nandlal ki haan” ! Par-baba used to encourage me to chant Raam Raam every morning. Sometimes he chastised me, which is fine. Third death occured to my younger sister Usha, she was just 3 years of age, in 1945. In 1948, we had a Punjabi family as tenant. The young boy Lali died of fever at the tender age of 10 years – that was fourth death in the house! Fifth death was of my grand father Beni Prasad Mishra in 1955. He was very god-conscious and quiet person. He was very knowledgeable in geography, and used to read newspapers daily. In those days, he had passed High School Exam from UP Board, and served as Quanungo- a post similar to Assistant District Magistrate. Sixth death in this home was of my lovliest sister Sunita, who died of fever at the young age of three, in summer of 1958. Seventh death was in 1960s of my beloved grand mother Ram Lali devi. She was a very brave lady and knew how to handle family matters. Eigtht death happened to my cousin brother Pradeep on Dusserah Day in 1966 who was involved in a motor-cycle accident. Ninth death occurred to my father in 1979 who was very young- not having reached the age of even 60 years. My sweetest and most dearest mother Kishori Devi left this world in 1988- she was eleventh soul at this home to leave the world and her ashes were immersed in Ganges.
In my childhood, I had worshipped mother cow in order to get a brother. As such used to feed first offering ( Go – gras) to Mangala- a cow donated to us by my beloved Nani Rukmini Devi- wife of my Nana Ji Ghan Shyam Narayan Dixit. As a result, I was blessed with two brothers : Prakash on October 26 1958, and Ajay in 1961.  Prakash- then aged 7 years- joined us for a honey-moon trip to Haridwar in 1965. He used to take me to Temple, give ride to meetings.

There is an interesting incident which happened when Prakash was just 19 years old. We both went to visit our maternal grandmother Rukmini Dixit, who was over-joyed to see me after a long time. She was cooking on a stove which was very dirty due to gas being clogged. Prakash took a straw and cleaned the holes, so that gas may flow properly. And our grandmother complemented: Oh, it appears that God has come to my home.!

During my eye-surgeries on both eyes in 2004 and 2010, he was always there with his care taking wife RekhaShri.  This year I attended Maha Kumbh Mela and stayed for a period of 35 days in my ancestral home. As usual, Prakash and his wife RekhaShri took very good care of me. I presented a set of Srimad Bhagavatam in Hindi language, so that it blesses the home ! I spent time with Shubhdeep to encourage  him chanting of Maha Mantra.

Prakash is the twelth soul to have resided in Kaushalya Bhawan and left this world on November 27, 2013 , at a young age of 55. He is bereaved by his wife Rekha, daughter Shrami and son Shubhdeep; other sisters include Sharad Tewari ( and her husband Vinod Tewari); Mamta Dixit ( and her husband Ashok Dixit); Virendra Dubey from Lucknow; Kiran Shukla ( and her husband Daya Prakash Shukla); Anita Dubey ( and her husband Anil Dubey) and myself- eldest brother ( and my wife Anita Shukla Mishra)- along with our children- Som Akshay Mishra ( his wife Venita Gabriel and son Janu) ; Extended family consists of Kanu & Anuranjita with their husbands and kids; Amit and Udit Dixit; Amiy and Isha Dubey; Arya and Akanksha; Juhi and Neel Dubey. Also included are Prakash ‘s mother-in-law, and families of brother-in-laws, settled in Lucknow. Our prayers to the departed soul, who may be engaged in Goloka in serving Krishna.

ISKCON Phoenix: Love of Power

BY: ALPESH MAHANT

Nov 22, 2013 — PHOENIX, ARIZONA, USA (SUN) — Bhaktivedanta Cultural Center in Chandler, Arizona was established by disciples of Srila Prabhupada in 1996. Also known as ISKCON of Phoenix, the institution has created a fear and turmoil among the devotees, especially members of the congregation over the past few years. First, the Temple President went to the court on March 8th to ban a 75-year old man from India on charges of harassment, which were thrown out by the Superior Court of Arizona on October 29th. Next, the management’s reaction resulted in imposing a “ban” on five more Life Members on the pretext of “Private Property”, through a letter warning them not to come to the Temple any longer or they would face removal or be arrested on criminal charges of trespassing.

“Love of power” on the part of management has caused senior worshipers and devotees a pain that nobody can imagine — because their life has been centered around this temple in Chandler, where hundreds of employees from Intel and other major corporations have been devoting time and money as investment in their families’ future – to raise Krishna (God) conscious kids who will be the responsible citizens of tomorrow’s America, in view of practicing Hare Krishna Regulative Principles such as drug free, non-violent – no meat, away from vices of drinking and gambling together with no illicit sex, and chanting the Holy Names of the Lord.

Building and running a temple with public money and designating it as a “private property” violates the first amendment rights of freedom of worship. The Founder-Acarya of the Hare Krishna movement, Swami Prabhupada came from India to New York with little money, about eight dollars in all – and a trunk full of books, and established ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) in 1966. Over the next twelve years he established more than 100 temples around the globe and had a following of more than 5,000 devotees. Purity is the force — such is the power of love.

Current management’s “love of power” reminds us of a proverb: either you are with us or against us.

Sincerely,

Alpesh Mahant

Even the Hindus Are Realizing GBC’s “Power Hunger”

ISKCON Phoenix: ‘My Way or The Highway’

BY: S. GUPTA

Nov 28, 2013 — ARIZONA, USA (SUN) — I would like to comment on the recent Sun article, “ISKCON Phoenix: Love of Power“. The Governing principle of our activity should to do what is favorable for pleasing Krishna. My question is, by banning and threatening devotees, is the management trying to please Krishna.

In fact, the Vice President of the Temple resigned when she came to know that five families were banned from the Temple.

The situation in Phoenix is in dire need of intervention by the GBC but nobody wants to do anything. I don’t know what is stopping them from taking any action. Is it something that we don’t know? The Temple President has no qualifications as a leader, cannot even lead the arati or give any lecture, but still is in the position.

The devotees at the temple are scared and treated like employees of a motel instead of devotees of Krishna. It’s either ‘my way or highway’ for the management.
